Kiran Rao Enjoys A Lavish Feast With Chef Asma Khan At London’s Famous Darjeeling Express

Kiran Rao was spotted having an Indian meal at London’s Darjeeling Express. Chef Asma Khan shared a picture with her and talked about their common roots.

Kiran Rao is currently dedicated to her film, Laapataa Ladies’ Oscar campaign. Amid her busy schedule, the filmmaker recently caught up with an old friend and renowned London-based chef, Asma Khan. The duo shared a meal at the famous Darjeeling Express, which serves some of the most delectable Indian dishes on its menu. Both Kiran and Asma have deep roots in Kolkata, and this reunion was packed with memories and delectable food.

Asma Khan shared a slew of pictures with Kiran Rao on her Instagram handle and wrote, “I have wanted to meet Karan Rao forever – she was everything I imagined… and more! The world is a better place with storytellers like her, who explore the tenderness of humanity while upholding steadfast social values. There was so much nuance and beauty in the Lost Ladies film — go and watch it if you haven’t! Spending the afternoon chatting with her about school (we were in the same house!), Calcutta and the songs we love- I felt like I had known her my whole life.” The pictures show the friends enjoying a lavish spread at the quaint restaurant.

Meanwhile, Darjeeling Kitchen is a small dining space with food prepared from family recipes passed down through generations. Reportedly, it is known for its authentic Indian cuisine that honours the royal Mughal history and Kolkata’s bustling street food culture. Chef Asma Khan, a social change advocate, best-selling cookbook author, and the first British chef featured on Netflix’s Chef’s Table. She is a member of the mayor’s Business Advisory Board and was named one of Vogue’s 25 most powerful women.

Kiran Rao, a renowned filmmaker, producer, and screenwriter, is recognized for her dedication to social problems. Her film, Laapataa Ladies, has been selected as India’s entry for Best International Feature Film at the 97th Academy Awards. Laapataa Ladies, starring Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Chhaya Kadam, and Ravi Kishan, is a light-hearted satire on patriarchy. It follows two young newlywed brides who renew vows on a train voyage to their husbands’ homes. The film has been officially renamed Lost Ladies to appeal to an international audience.
